GIOVANNI CARNOVALI
GIOVANNI CARNOVALI
Oil painting on canvas depicting Holy Family.
Executed by Giovanni Carnovali known as il Piccio (1804 - 1873).
".... Born in Montegrino, above Luino, on 29 September 1804, he was the son of Giovan Battista, a bricklayer.
His father moved with the eldest son to Albino, near Bergamo, to Count Spini's villa for some important work and here, due to his small stature, the son was nicknamed Piccio, a nickname that would last forever and with which he would sign many of his works.
It was in this environment that he began to draw, and Count C. Spini, seeing his ability, recommended him to Giuseppe Diotti, professor of painting at the Accademia Carrara".
