Wardrobe from Bergamo 18th-century

Solid walnut larder cupboard, Lombardy, Bergamo area provenance dating from the mid-18th century. The rigorous and squared layout is reminiscent of its façade, with the upper frame decorated with dentils and the feet supporting the body reminiscent of pilaster strips. The geometric panels enclosed within shaped frames on the two doors are also ornamental motifs that echo the architectural scansion of the openings on the façades, marked by a precise and rigorous modularity. This type of wardrobe is typical of the second half of the 17th century, especially in the more peripheral areas, where the new taste was still slow to arrive or simply where these simpler forms were still preferred. The decorativism that characterises the wardrobe, particularly the pilasters on the sides, with a flat tapering column with Doric capital, is one of the main features that still makes it a popular piece of furniture today;
