GIACOMO del PO (Palermo, 1654 - Naples, 15 November 1726)

Oil painting on canvas depicting 'The Triumph of Galatea', of Italian origin, Neapolitan area, attributed to Giacomo del Po (Palermo, 1654 - Naples, 15 November 1726) was an Italian painter and engraver of the late Baroque period

The painting shows the apotheosis of the nymph Galatea, carried in triumph over the waters, an episode taken from ancient Latin culture, and taken up again from the Renaissance onwards; in particular, the myths it is inspired by are narrated in Poliziano's Joust, and in Ovid's Metamorfosi (book 13).
