Pair of ebonised wooden centre tables of French provenance dating from the third quarter of the 19th century.
The tables have a sinuous shape, with handles, decorated with brass inlays depicting geometric, plant, human and mythological figures on a tortoiseshell background. The top is adorned with a gilded bronze border worked in cord and pod. It has a drawer under the top, with central bands showing female faces in bronze relief. The curved legs are surmounted by female busts at the attachment. One of the tables has a lock in the drawer engraved with 'Diehl. 19 R. Michel Le Comte. PARIS'. Charles Guillame Diehl 1811-1885. One of the two tables is signed.
