GIACOMO del PO (Palermo, 1654 - Naples, 15 November 1726

Oil painting on canvas depicting 'Abduction of Europa', of Italian provenance, Neapolitan area, attributed to Giacomo del Po (Palermo, 1654 - Naples, 15 November 1726) was an Italian painter and engraver of the late Baroque period.

The painting shows the Roman myth of the abduction of Europa, which tells how Jupiter, in love with the maiden, transforms himself into a white bull and takes her to Crete. The episode is taken from ancient Latin culture, and taken up by the Renaissance; in particular, the myths it is inspired by are narrated in Poliziano's Joust, and Ovid's Metamorphoses (book 13).
